LBP Beta Code contest winner announced!

The results are in guys along with a video I made of the live drawing so nobody feels cheated. I won’t spoil the winner in case you want to find out yourself, however they have been notified already on PSN (In 2 days if they do not send me a message acknowledging my message I will re-draw another winner if needed as long as they have not used to code by then).

Thank you to all who participated in the contest, I had a fun time reading all of your comments and was very suprised to see Earthworm Jim just dominating in nominations for a series remake (which is coming by the way guys, just search Earthworm Jim on here). Stay tuned for future contests on Platformer Update!

Win a Little Big Planet Beta Code courtesy of Platformer Update

Platformer Update is giving away one Beta Code to Little Big Planet to one lucky reader. These codes are no easy task to get a hold of, in fact as soon as websites have allowed visitors to sign up, the sites crash shortly afterwards. The rules are simple, just follow these easy steps and you will be one step closer to playing in the Beta:

  • Leave a comment telling us your Top 3 favorite platformer games of all time and one platformer series/game that most deserves to be revived or remade (explainations are fine but not required) for next gen systems. (For help on defining a platformer game please browse this website or visit our About page)
  • In the comment, please include your PSN Account name (You will be notified by a comment on your PSN name with your code.)
  • Limit 1 entry per person (comment more than once and you will be immediately disqualified!)
  • This entry period ends at 11:59pm ET on Saturday, October 4th. We’ll choose our favorite entries and randomly select one winner at that time to receive one Beta Code, you will be notified by your PSN name not email. (Please note, no biases in terms of the game series you pick will play a role in our selection, we will just be weeding out obvious spam entries, so in essence every entry could be called a “favorite”) Good luck, please make sure you have read the rules carefully, any missing fields will automatically disqualify you!

Mirror’s Edge offers up a less-than-normal special edition

When you normaly think of special editions for games these days, what comes to mind? “Making of” bonus discs, art books, soundtracks, maybe a figurine, but never really messenger bags (unless you count the GTA4 duffle bag). EA is going to be offering a special edition bundled with the above messenger bag for $130, if you are bad at math it is really like paying an extra $70 for the bag itself. A bit much? maybe, unless you will actually make use of it than thats a different story. Either way, Mirror’s Edge still makes our list for one of the top 5 platformers to look forward to in 2008.

Own every NES platformer ever, oh and every other NES game as well

I tend not to go this general for platformer news, but this is just a bit too cool not to post. There is no doubt that NES is home to many many platformers, some of the best ever made actually. Now is your chance to own everyone of them, actually to own every NES game ever made in this eBay auction which is currently at over $10,000!  If you just don’t have that much money to spare maybe you will have some fun checking out it’s ending price, which I am sure will be as much as putting a down payment on a house.

Eternity’s Child: The Lost Chapter

Before it was a WiiWare title, Eternity’s Child was being manufactured for mobile phones. Rather than just scrapping the project or vaulting it, creator Luc Bernard has made it available – for free – through the Eternity’s Child website! Sporting it’s wonderfully beautiful, hand drawn style graphics, there’s no reason not to check this title out!

Why you should pre-order Mushroom Men.

You get this awesome “life-sized” statue, thats why! Well if you pre-order Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars for Wii at GameStop you will get this little guy to the left, as well a a pack of 11 cards with the games variou enemies. If you pre-order Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi on DS at GameStop you will also get another pack of 11 cards (different from the Wii one) along with a Les Claypool Mushroom Men themed poster. Pretty cool huh? So get out there and pre-order!

Own the glorious Mega Man 9 box art shirt

When fans were treated to the box art for the upcoming Mega Man 9 they couldent resist the tight tights of Mega Man himself. During E308 Capcom reps were wearing a shirt with the box art, and so many fans and journalists wanted a shirt of their own Capcom has broken down and decided to make the shirts mass produced and available in the US and “available for purchase soon”. If you want to know where this art came from exactly visit the artists website “I am 8-bit” Gerald de Jesus. No price point, date, exactly where they will be available for purchase has been made official yet though it is a safe bet they will be available online only at Capcoms website for a price between $20-$30.
