LocoRoco 2 trailer will make you sing along

The original LocoRoco on PSP was unique for platformers in that all movement was done by using only the shoulder buttons to tilt the world left or right and pressing both at once made your character jump. It had very catchy music and an extremely polished graphical presentation as well.

LocoRoco 2 seems to be all of that and more, as we can see in the trailer all sorts of new gameplay elements have joined the series that takes it out of its once fairly straight forward point A to Point B levels. If you own a PSP you should really check this series out, there really is nothing else like it.

LittleBig PSP?

Sony’s LittleBigPlanethas certainly been the apple of the gaming media’s eye. With the console version releasing not too far off, gamers and the media are abuzz about the exciting new create-your-own platformer game that many have lauded as revolutionary.

So would it come as any surprise that Sony would like to slice off more of the pie?

That’s right, a LittleBigPlanetgame could be coming to a PSP near you.

Media Molecule’s co-founder Mark Healy mentioned the possibility while talking with Eurogamer TV:

There’s definitely scope for a PSP version. We’ve had discussions and talks, [but] nothing concrete at the moment. It’d be great to make, for the people who are really into the Create side, some kind of companion products that allow you to create things while you’re on the train.

One thing that I’d love to add is the ability to create you’re own music, for example, that you can import into the game. That seems like an obvious one to do and it’d be quite easy really.

What exactly the game could be is anyones guess, but if you need further proof then consider the fact Media Molecule just posted an online job ad for a “PSP Game Engine Lead”.

Let the speculation begin!

Disgaea’s Prinny suicidal penguins get their own platformer

Disgaea, the popular strategy RPG series is mainly known for two things. One being it’s epicly large amount of content for level grinders and second being the suicidal penguins called Prinny. Well the little guys are getting their own platformer with perhaps the coolest title for a game ever ‘Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character?’ check out the official website, and anticipate its arrival on Japanese PSPs on November 20th. If you have a Japanese PlayStation Store account, you’ll also want to check out the demo on of September 29th.

Cid the Boxart

If you’re like me, your most anticipated platformer of the year is Cid the Dummy. Wait, never heard of it? Are you kidding me? Don’t worry, most people haven’t.

Cid the Dummy is a forthcoming Wii, PSP, PS2,DS, and PC 3D side-scrolling platformer. Developer Twelve Interactive has this to say:

CID THE DUMMY is a platform game that grabs you straight away with its amusing blend of action and puzzle-filled gameplay. Based around the multiple opportunities for a Crash Impact Dummy to get into mischief, the game blends classic platform elements such as timed jumps, collecting pick-ups, defeating enemies, and challenging boss battles with more cerebral elements such as puzzles, clever weapon use and route finding.

• Interact as only a crash dummy can. Climb walls, swing on ropes, burn obstacles, destroy exploding barrels, use lifters, bounce on springs and with a neat head butt destroy walls all in stunningly realized environments. Game environment interaction is the most important part of the gameplay.
• CID’s world is swarming with a host of fearfully fun enemies like the Dumper, Cursed Dummy and the bizarre Failed Experiment.
• Apart from fighting enemies, the player will enjoy solving puzzles, avoiding traps and using acrobatic skills to get out of dangerous situations!

But between its website having been only a static image for months now, and the developer’s claiming it was a Q1 release this year but it was a no show, the whole three people who knew about the game  were ready to call it vaporware.

Hold the phone! Just when you thought Cid had crashed for good, Twelve Interactive released the box art today, letting us know that Cid is still kicking.

With just the multiplatform Martial Arts: Capoeira Fighters and Wii-exclusive Party Crashers under developer Take Twelve’s belt, many have now switched from proclaiming this as vaporware to saying it’s shovelware. What do you think? Could this be a surprisingly decent platformer or is it trash?

Patapon 2 = 2 Times The Patapon

PSP exclusive action platformer Patapon is getting a sequel that promises to be twice as large as the original title.

A new Famitsu article (untranslated) states the game will have twice the number of levels as its predecessor, so we can only assume that means twice the fun!

Without a doubt, four-player ad-hoc multiplayer is the biggest new addition to the Patapon sequel, tentatively titled Patapon 2. The idea behind the co-op multiplayer mode is simple. In Patapon 2’s single-player story mode, you’ll occasionally come across giant eggs — some of which contain helpful items, some of which hold smaller eggs inside. In order to hatch these suckers, you’ll have to team up with other players and navigate a special enemy-laden multiplayer battleground, using the traditional pata-pata-pata-pon drumbeat to heft the egg forward and defending it whenever monsters loom nearby. Once you arrive at the special egg-hatching altar at the end of the field, all four players will perform a hatching ceremony, a sort of tribal drumline where everyone has to match their rhythms together to crack open the egg.

As Kotani put it to Weekly Famitsu, the original Patapon lacked multiplayer because he thought it would be too hard for players to come to grips with. “You control a lot of characters at once in Patapon, so we thought multiplayer would be too difficult to deal with,” he says. “You wouldn’t have any idea which fighers were under your control. That’s where the Hero Patapon come in.” These Hero Patapon, amusingly enough, play a similar role to the “heroes” in real-time strategy games like Warcraft III — they’re a central unit to your Patapon army, a very powerful character that can be further customized and strengthened with the special items you earn in multiplayer. “[The Hero Patapon] are strong, but the enemies are just as strong this time,” Kotani notes. “There are lots more bosses and midboss-type enemies this time. We’ve got about double the amount of content to explore, just in terms of the number of stages alone. Add the customization options to that, and to be honest, you may never get to fully explore every bit of it.

Daxter could very well be coming to the PS2

The French website Jeuxvideo.fr has posted news that the PSP platformer Daxter will be coming to the PS2 as a port, however this is still just a rumor. Seing that Ratchet and Clank Size Matters made it’s way to the PS2 it is a good bet that Daxter could as well. However, with Daxter being a $15 greatest hit on PSP will it be marked up to a $30 purchase for the PS2? I will be sure to keep everyone updated if an official announcement is made.

Review – Mega Man Powered Up (PSP)

YEAR: 2006

Mega Man Powered Up is an updated remake of the original Mega Man for NES. It’s been remade from the ground up so it’s a different experience than the NES installments. The action is still 2D but the graphics are now 3D. The designs in Mega Man games have always been pretty cartoony but in this game it goes even further. Now Mega Man and the Master Robots sport super-deformed looks, with heads as big as their bodies. Naturally, the music has been re-recorded and all of the characters now speak. You may be surprised to learn that many of the Robot Masters actually have very gay/effeminate voices and mannerisms. Who knew!?
