LBP Beta Code contest winner announced!

The results are in guys along with a video I made of the live drawing so nobody feels cheated. I won’t spoil the winner in case you want to find out yourself, however they have been notified already on PSN (In 2 days if they do not send me a message acknowledging my message I will re-draw another winner if needed as long as they have not used to code by then).

Thank you to all who participated in the contest, I had a fun time reading all of your comments and was very suprised to see Earthworm Jim just dominating in nominations for a series remake (which is coming by the way guys, just search Earthworm Jim on here). Stay tuned for future contests on Platformer Update!

Win a Little Big Planet Beta Code courtesy of Platformer Update

Platformer Update is giving away one Beta Code to Little Big Planet to one lucky reader. These codes are no easy task to get a hold of, in fact as soon as websites have allowed visitors to sign up, the sites crash shortly afterwards. The rules are simple, just follow these easy steps and you will be one step closer to playing in the Beta:

  • Leave a comment telling us your Top 3 favorite platformer games of all time and one platformer series/game that most deserves to be revived or remade (explainations are fine but not required) for next gen systems. (For help on defining a platformer game please browse this website or visit our About page)
  • In the comment, please include your PSN Account name (You will be notified by a comment on your PSN name with your code.)
  • Limit 1 entry per person (comment more than once and you will be immediately disqualified!)
  • This entry period ends at 11:59pm ET on Saturday, October 4th. We’ll choose our favorite entries and randomly select one winner at that time to receive one Beta Code, you will be notified by your PSN name not email. (Please note, no biases in terms of the game series you pick will play a role in our selection, we will just be weeding out obvious spam entries, so in essence every entry could be called a “favorite”) Good luck, please make sure you have read the rules carefully, any missing fields will automatically disqualify you!

Staff postitions for Reviewers, News/Article Authors still open

I am still seeking staff, this is a re-post of a post I did awhile ago. Platformer Update is growing more and more each day. Visitors now are not just finding our website through searches for platformer games, but rather through world of mouth as more and more people are now searching us by name in search engines. As our visitor count rises, we need more daily content to satisfy our daily readers. As we all know news is not always available daily for platformer games (though we try to make it so!) and the best thing to fill in the news gaps is with reviews! This is where you come in. If you feel you are capable of writing at least 1 review a week for any kind of platforming games and would like to join the PU Staff, contact me now! We are also looking for one more news/feature article writer, who may also do reviews if they please. Who knows, when the day comes when we get REALLY big, you can say you were part of the start of Platformer Update! If you are interested in applying and want more info please hit the break. Platformer Update welcomes two new Staff members!

I would like to take the time to welcome my first two new staff members, Neal (nealp) and Lygo. Neal is the webmaster of the best Spyro website on the internet SpyroWorld, who will be mainly concentrating on keeping us updated with platformer news from around the web. Lygo is a platformer fanatic from the UK who has had a passion for the genre for well over 20 years, he will be mainly concentrated on writing reviews for platformer games from all era’s.

We have some new ideas in progress for the website, Neal wants to compile a list of every platformer game ever made on every system, which you can find as a work in progress on our forums which will in the future make its way to the website. Exclusive Platformer Update reviews will also finally be making their way to a computer near you soon as well, so look forward to that.

The best part of this news announcement is that Platformer Update is no longer a one man team, with three staff members on board you can now expect to constantly see updates on the site so you don’t miss any platformer news. If you would like to view the staff be sure to check out the work in progress Staff page, and if you would like to join the team I am still accepting applications, just check out this page here.

The Forums get a new look, join the community!

You might remember the old generic forum style from before, well I never intended to keep it that way it was just a matter of time before I gave it a bit of an upgrade to something more interesting. I added sections for all different platformer series with their respective icons next to their forums. My next mission is to get people to join the forum so we can get a great community started! We have a couple of active members already but we need more to get things started, don’t be shy to join a new forum, it’s the only way to get it going!

Please register and be sure to introduce yourself, you can join the only forum on the internet dedicated just to platformer games, share your passion for these classic games, Join Now and let your opinions be heard!

Looking to integrate Reader Reviews to the main page

Something I have been meaning to get around to was a reviews section for platformer games (just trying to find the time) that way there will always be some updates for the site when the news is dry (like right now I am having a hard time locating any new news to post) so I was thinking of maybe having a “Reviews Page” where I would put a collection of reviews together categorized by Staff reviews (just me at the moment, looking for staff members still) and then reader reviews. I would even feature each reader review submitted on the main page along with links to recent submissions on a sidebar. It would be laid out like this

Normal post on site:

Post Title:
Reader Review: [Game name] by: [reader name]

Picture: [selectable by reader or I can provide you with one]

Text: [Each review should include an introductory paragraph which will be used as the post’s text where readers will then click “Read More” for the full review]

If you anyone is interested in submitting some reviews the only rules I have are that it please be for the platform genre, and please spell check them before submitting to me. You may include a maximum of 3 screen shots for the game although pictures are not required. You may use your own layout and do not have to include number scores if you do not wish to. To submit a review to me just email it to me at pdorr3@yahoo.com with a subject with something like “Platformer Update Reader Review” so I know and include any screen shots (max 3) or box art in the email as well (links are fine).
